Context and contact information
I was born in Sydney, Australia, and other than spending 5 years in Baltimore, MD, before turning 10, I grew up in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. Always a lover of the natural world, and the visual arts, I studied art history, and majored in zoology and neuroscience at the Univ. of Melbourne. I pursued and completed my PhD in neurobiology in 1991, spent nearly 4 years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in NY at the Rockefeller University, and then returned to Melbourne Univ. in 1994 to run my own lab. In late 2000, I moved to the Bay Area to take up a faculty position at Stanford University, where I have lived and worked ever since. I began playing with sculpting as a student, and cast my early pieces in bronze in Melbourne in the mid 1990s. I have always found inspiration in natural forms, forces and movement, in 3 dimensional space….
